Songs for Young Lovers Review

As the inaugural review on Bing's Bugle we'll be reviewing a Frank Sinatra album. Okay, okay, I understand this is ironic considering the name of this site, but I just got a few Sinatra albums and they are fresh in my head. We're gonna review song by song, then thoughts on the album itself, then finally the sound quality.

My Funny Valentine - A good song in general, but not the nicest if you ever want to sing to your partner. George Siravo arranged this nicely as usual.

The Girl Next Door - This someone poignant song about loving a girl next door, who doesn't particularly know him, seems almost fit for In Wee The Small Hours. Though he sings it as though starstruck and not sadly. A much more positive song to sing about someone.

A Foggy Day - An almost swing type arrangement, which suits the song and Sinatra very well in this album.

Like Someone In Love - Very much closer to a torch song compared to other songs in this album so far. It seems like a song that could be brought back into popularity if given the chance.

I Get A Kick Out Of You - One of Cole Porter's best songs Frank has sung. This version is a good rendition of the songs, although I prefer this version over Sinatra's Reprise recording, to this one.

Little Girl Blue - Nice song, nothing stood out to me too much on it. It's not a bad song though.

They Can't Take That Away From Me - The sax in this really stands out to me. This songs seems almost like a sequel song to My Funny Valentine. This is a great Gershwin tune.

Violet For Your Furs - This was a nice song too, the sax shows up again for another highlight of the arrangement.

Overall Thoughts - As Frank's return to albums in 1954, this was a great restart, giving him to of his signature songs, being I Get A Kick Out Of You and My Funny Valentine of course.

Sound Quality - Now this fluctuates between different releases, but the current releases on iTunes and Vinyl are good, just avoid the 1998 Entertainer Of The Century one.
